Our weather station is a Davis 6162 Vantage Pro Plus.

It is solar powered during the day and battery powered at night.
It senses temperature, humidity, air pressure, wind speed and direction,
precipitation, UV light and solar radiation, It is wireless, so if it is
hit by lightning again, it will not damage anything inside.
The Davis Weatherlink software takes information and creates a forecast
then uploads it to the site.

The template was from Davis. Mr. Reynolds designed the layout. DDTM.
The main page updates every minute
and sends information to Weather Underground.

History of the station
Sandburg Middle School had a weather station for many years. But on
September 24, 2007, a lightning strike made the weather station useless.
It left black marks on the wall of Mr. Reynolds' room 312
It also damaged the projector and video card in the computer.

Mr. Reynolds decided to replace the weather station.
The next problem was to find enough money to buy a new one. Many sources
came to the aid of the science department. Sandburg PTSO, the IB program and
Mrs. Hildebrand, Mr. Henderlite and the Science department all contributed.

On December 10th, 2007, Mr. Reynolds and Miss Hearne installed the station.
It was a warm day (20F) and luckilly there was no wind.

A rain guage heater was added to melt the snow so the water will record
on the appropriate day. It is made from a reptile terrarrium heater and
pipe foam insulation. It is on a switch that will turn on at 38F.

It is always fun to go on the roof of Sandburg Middle School.

Sandburg Middle School was closed in June of 2009. Mr. Reynolds, Ms. Hearne and
the weather station moved to Robbinsdale Middle School in the fall of 2009.
